About

I am an author & cartographer from Maine. My books to date include Ten Days in Acadia: A Kid’s Hiking Guide to Mt Desert Island, and Ten Days in the North Woods: a Kid’s Hiking Guide to the Katahdin Region, both published by Islandport Press.

My “day job” involves cartography and spatial analysis, mapping hiking trails across the State of Maine.

I grew up in eastern Massachusetts, and have been camping in Maine since I was in a crib. I have a degree in Music from Colby College in Waterville, but my love of Acadia led me to an advanced degree in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor. I have spent the past fifteen years creating and designing maps as a certified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Professional, while also teaching children about mapmaking. I now live on Mount Desert Island with Acadia National Park as my backyard.

In this blog, I share my experiences, photos, and cool things I encounter while out on the trails; show what kids I work with are doing with all things maps and hiking; and offer tools and tips to enhance YOUR outdoor experiences!
